Intervarsity Football

Reviving the rivalry and dominating

The University of Adelaide has a long history of intervarsity competition in many sports. In 2016, a number of Go8 universities decided it was time to revive the rivalry and re-establish the intervarsity football competition.

This saw the University of Adelaide (UofA), Melbourne University, Monash University and Australian National University (ANU) battle it out to see which reigned supreme in University Football for 2016.  Today, the competition has now expanded to the Varsity Challenge Sport Conference and involves Universities from South Australia, Victoria, NSW and Queensland.

What’s involved?

Intervarsity football (IV Football) is your opportunity to represent the University of Adelaide in one off football matches against other Australian Universities in a nationwide competition.
Most games are played on Tuesdays and are either played at University’s Park 12 oval or away at the host university ground. AU Sport covers the costs of travel and the AU Football Club assists in managing the team.

Who is involved?

This competition is not linked to the SAAFL, the AUFC or any other football club and league. It is completely amateur and only open to university students. It is run and organised solely by Adelaide University Sport with the support of the AUFC, and other university departments.
Only University of Adelaide students are eligible to be selected for its IV Football team. It does not matter if you don't play for the Adelaide University Football Club (AUFC). If you play for other community clubs, we encourage you to be involved with this opportunity.

2018 Program

This year, the University of Queensland, the University of Sydney, the University of Melbourne, Monash University and the University of Adelaide will battle it out for the Varsity Cup in a North/South conference style competition. Due to our dominance last year, University of Adelaide team has progressed straight to the South Semi Final and will play a home game against the winner of the University of Melbourne and Monash game.
To ensure our team does not hit the semi final underdone, the team will play an away game against Australian National University.
